The Hollis BBQ Story
Hollis BBQ was founded in Melissa Texas, 2019 by Disabled Veteran Owner & Operator Donovan J. Hollis, often referred to by “DJ”. DJ was born in Houston, Texas and moved to Melissa as a child. After graduating from Melissa High School in 2012, DJ enlisted in the United States Army. He served 6 Years as an Airborne Army Ranger and served two deployments to Afghanistan. In 2016 Donovan suffered an accident while on Fort Benning, Georgia. The result of the accident caused DJ to lose his right Leg. His road to recovery lead him to realize his passion for food and bringing people together with delicious Texas Style BBQ & Homemade Southern Favorites. Today, DJ resides in Melissa, Texas with his wife Jasmin and their two kids- where he also runs his Catering business. DJ’s favorite pass times are bicycling, kayaking, fishing, hiking, spending time with family, and smoking up mouthwatering BBQ.
